Rapper Fifi Cooper narrates her Journey to stardom

She’s known from Witbank to Welkom as the first lady of Motswako, but it’s been a long and hard journey to stardom for rapper, Fifi Cooper.
Right now she is the one name on everyone’s lips, after winning three awards at the recent Metro FM Music Awards. But Fifi remembers a time when she thought no one knew her name.
"I've always been a singer, but I only started to rap when about eight years ago," she tells The Juice in a chat recently. "But when I first rapped I was doing it for fun and I never thought anyone would pick up on it. I just wrote a song and I thought it would end there but when I performed it, everything changed for me and I knew I had to keep doing this."
Fast forward a few years, and with the help and guidance of Motswako originators HHP and Khuli Chana, Fifi Cooper is one of the country's biggest stars.
"When I look back at what I've achieved, it's unbelievable. But truth be told I've worked really hard over the last year. I can count on my hand how many days in the last year I have actually slept, that's how focused and busy I've been with trying to get to this point," she tells us.
"Deep down in my heart I know I deserved all the accolades and recognition I've got, but it's still amazing to me. I hope that people will see female rappers differently now and give us a chance," she adds.
Fifi says even though female rappers have to work twice as hard as their male counterparts to get noticed, it is her son that gives her the drive to work hard in the industry and make a success of her career.
"He's inspired me to work harder and to be out there more. He's inspired me to do my best because at the end of the day I'm not working for myself anymore. I'm working hard to give him a better life," she says.
