Isibaya star arrested for brutally assaulting his wife
Isibaya lead actor Andile Gumbi almost spent Freedom Day locked up in police cells for allegedly moering his wife.
The talented actor, who plays the character of Zweli, the feared character in the award-winning soapie on the Mzansi Magic soapie, was nabbed on Monday. Police spokesman Daniel Mavimbela confirmed that the hunky star was arrested and charged with assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.
Gumbi, who is also a dancer and singer, was not immediately available for comment and had not returned messages at the time of going to print. Sunday World understands that the actor from Durban in KwaZuluNatal, who once had a stint on Broadway s allegedly punched his other half following an argument. They were at home sitting and discussing something when Gumbi got irritated,” said a source close to the couple. It is understood that the pair had a heated argument when Gumbi pushed his wife and stormed out of their Douglasdale, Randburg home.
He apparently came back the following morning with another woman believed to be his side chick. ‘It was very disrespectful of him to come with another woman at their home. So when his wife questioned him, he got angry again. The door was locked when he came back. He broke it and got inside. He started to assault her and started to pack his belongings,” said the mole.
The star, who was voted by one of our sister publications as one of Mzansi’s Sexiest Top 12 celebs in 2015, allegedly started beating her up, punched her on the back and dragged her on the floor. A case was opened at Douglasdale police station, after which Gumbi was arrested and appeared in in the Randburg Magistrate s Court on Tuesday. He was released after his court appearance. Mavimbela said the star’s case was postponed for further investigations and he will appear in court again later this month. He was previously romantically linked to socialite Hlengiwe Ngcobo.
