DJ Zinhle shares lessons from her mother
With Mother’s Day just around the corner‚ DJ Zinhle took to her blog on Thursday to share some of the valuable lessons she has learnt from her mother of not only motherhood‚ but being a “grounded and hard-working woman.”
This mother-of-one‚ who will be celebrating her first Mother’s Day this year‚ pointed to her mom as being the main reason why she works hard‚ and as a result‚ has driven her to be independent.
“I work hard because that is what I watched my mother do. She was a teacher who instilled in me the discipline to work hard and not to expect anything from anyone. She taught me that the person responsible for me is myself‚” she wrote.
Adding‚ “I remember very clearly how she discouraged the idea of us accepting money as a gift from people. This is how I was raised. There is nothing wrong with accepting gifts but this lesson from my mother protected me from many things.”
DJ Zinhle‚ who previously dated rapper AKA‚ revealed that her sense of independence also applies in her relationships.
“My relationships have never been shaped by how much money the other person has to offer but rather about mutual respect. I respect people equally regardless of what they have or don’t have.”
More lessons she included from her mother‚ who has been the “rock” of her family after Zinhle’s dad passed in 2010‚ was to “always see something through‚” respecting people’s time as well to laugh at herself when the going gets rough.
“She raised me to be a strong‚ principled and hard working woman. I am who I am because of my mother. I can only wish that I will able to teach Kairo [her child] the same lessons so she can grow up to be a successful and happy person‚” she added.
