Kenyan soldier commits suicide after shooting dead three relatives
The Eldoret West police boss says the motive for the killing hasn’t been established but investigations are ongoing.
A Kenya Defence Forces soldier has committed suicide after first shooting dead three relatives at Jua Kali area in Eldoret, while another Kenyan man has been remanded after murdering his girlfriend by stabbing her 23 times during several days of violence between family members and intimates, the East African reported on Tuesday.
The soldier drove nearly 200 km from Gilgil, Nakuru County, to Eldoret. After reaching his family’s home in the early hours of Tuesday morning he opened fire on his two uncles and a woman who lives in the homestead before turning the gun on himself.
Eldoret West police boss Zacharia Bittok said the motive for the killing has not been established but investigations are ongoing.
In other Kenya violence, Grace Kagure, 29, was stabbed to death by her boyfriend James Wambugu, 34, in Nairobi’s Pipeline Estate over the weekend.
Kagure received 23 stab wounds before a nurse in the building where she lived discovered her naked boy on the apartment floor after neighbours heard her screaming. The couple who had lived together for five years in the estate had been regarded by neighbours as ideal soulmates.
Kagure was subsequently arrested by police. On Monday he appeared before Makadara Law Courts as police requested that he be held in remand so they could continue their investigations.
Chief magistrate Heston Nyaga agreed that it was necessary to continue holding the suspect as he was being investigated for a capital offence.
